Mikayla’s Blog

A little bit extra

Random Updates

I am going into this blog not knowing at all what I am going to write, so bear with me.

Hmmm… let’s start with a little update. This weekend my family is going on our annual trip to San Juan Islands to go camping… woohoo! I don’t what it is, but those are always so much fun. We’ve had lucky weather, and this weekend its suppose to be up in the 70s so we’re all stoked. :)

Hmm.. What else? I still haven’t decided where I am going to go on my trip, I was thinking about China or India, but I am still wanting to go to Coasta Rica. Also I was considering Greece. Though, I think it would be cool to learn French, so if I went anywhere in Europe I might know some of their language which would be cool… hmmm. Tough decision. Any suggestions?

Homeschool has been going pretty good. I just finished the book Vampire Academy and thought it was pretty good so I’ll be doing a project on that of some sort, my advisor hasn’t told me yet. I did a paper for the book Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (author of Wicked) so hopefully this time it will be something different. At my mom’s we got a compost bin so we set it up and filled it with different stuff and I keep a journal of what is going on. For Interior Design I’m helping remodel a bathroom/bridal room, so I need to go to Lowes and pick out some colors…

Besides that, not much going on. Very excited for the weather to be like it was last weekend, that was awesome weather. When it’s sunny outside I am so much happier. Must be my Utah attitude. ;)

I don’t know about those Pain Killers…

Me: So when is Grandma going to get here?

Dad: Hmm… I dunno… probably sometime between now and when she is going to get here…

Oh jeez.

(No name yet) Chapter One

Note it’s just a rough draft. I wanted to play around a little bit with this story I have been thinking about writing.

Chapter One

The day dreaded most throughout the city of Necke came like a flash of light. An unpleasant pound on the door was the simple sound that would change Kacia’s life forever. It would change everybody’s life forever.

When she heard it, she closed her eyes, hoping when she opened them again it was years prior. It was the sound of a dreadful life on its way. Her dad bellowed a loud wakeup call on this tragic day that echoed through every memory filled square inch of their little house. Kacia knew staying in bed attempting to hold her breath until she passed out would only cause trouble for her family, the last thing she wanted. Many adults and children had attempted suicide due to fear of removal from the one thing that mattered: family. The ones that had tried had punishments immediately; their families were seized and locked up. To where, nobody knew.

She swung her legs over her bed and used all her willpower she had to stand up. She quickly put on a black robe that had been shoved into the back of her wardrobe, the same one everybody would be wearing today. The same one everybody had been provided with exactly 3 months ago. The same one people had attempted to burn or rip, but failed because this strange black thing was immune to damage. She slowly walked to her door, and turned to look at her room for the last time. This was the place she grew up. All the wonderful memories would be forgotten once she left this house, drifting in the empty rooms with nobody to remember. Kacia turned away when she felt her eyes start to burn and walked down the stairs. Her family was all sitting on the couch, looking down. Their eyes were sullen and empty. Even her baby sister seemed to feel the sadness in the air was crying gently.

“Well…” choked her father, “are we ready?”

Of course not.

Everyone stood and walked to the door. Her dad reached forward, and twisted that doorknob that was the only thing standing in her families’ way of permanent separation.

When you could live forever…What would you live for?

That is what it says on my sister’s Twilight poster. Obviously Edward lives for love. Think about it…if you could live forever, what would YOU live for?

I was bored and asked iGod. Here’s our conversation. (This is a pretty high-tech robot!)

Me:
Hey iGod
God:
You’ve got my full attention.  I’ve lost the context, .  Are we still on ?
Me:
Yes I have a question to ask you.
God:
Pardon me?  Go ahead, ask your question.
Me:
If you could live forever, what would you live for?
God:
That would be purely speculation.
Me:
So you would just want to watch others than to live life?
God:
Interesting deduction.  Who else would  want to watch others than to live life ?
Me:
There may be some people. Personally I would rather live than watch.
God:
"There you go again."–Reagan.   I would rather be  driving a car.
Me:
So you would be living?
God:
Interesting deduction.  Do I look like  it?
Me:
Well you are an internet site so no…
God:
Interesting.  What if someone said you are an  internet site so no ?
Me:
I don’t really think I look like an internet site so I don’t think anyone would say that in the first place. But, maybe I do. Who knows.
God:
Not really?  Would you ever do  it?    Perhaps.  Do I?    Only the Shadow knows.
Me:
You confuse me.
God:
That was not my intention.

More About Homeschool

I’ve just got to throw this out there,

I love it.

I feel so free! I can do whatever I want and it feels more creative…probably because my mom and I are the ones that actually figure out what I do with my time. Today I read more of my dad’s book and compared some characters and did a summary, oh and also a little bit of vocab….that part was easy. My dad uses big words, hehe.

For interior design I have been searching up some more Interior Design styles. There are basic styles…modern, country, tuscan…ect., and so far I have done 4. Once I have them all I am going to make a poster on all the styles.

For PE I have just been doing whatever comes up…sometimes I use the eliptical (however you spell that) at my dad’s and sometimes I do yoga with my mom. It really narrows down the time that you’d normally spend in PE because you actually use all your time exercizing and in PE a lot of the time we had was spent listening to how the game your going to play works.

Also, I do piano, and that adds some hours to the time we worked out at Homelink.

Let’s see…what else… for math I go to the Homelink place on Wednesdays and Fridays for about an hour and a half. Normally I would be there right now but we don’t have class this week because we have conferences. Next week is Spring Break too so I don’t go back for awhile. I like my teacher though, he is funny. He eats his lunch during class and tells us how much time we have left on a problem using bites instead of minutes. Another thing I like is you get out of class whenever you’re done with the material, unlike school. They don’t waste your time. I told my mom I really liked that, and she said that is how they do it in college too. It feels more fair.

My old science teacher was very high-tech. He puts everything online, the books they use, the tests they take…so I just go to his website he made and read the stuff he puts on there. He was the only teacher at my school who  got a Smart Board from the district so they could test it out and decide if its something that would be very helpful to get for every teacher. Everything he writes on there and everything the students write also go on the website in a flipchart. So all I have to do for that class is read what they read during that class, I take their tests, it’s that simple. :)

I told the teacher I met with for Homelink (who is also my algebra teacher) everything I would be doing. My family and I wrote up what I would be doing for each class and averaged about how many hours I would spend doing each thing. You are suppose to have at least 25 hours a week. I’m pretty sure I’m right at that 25 mark.

I really like Homelink so far though! …Especially the sleeping in part. :P

Is a WoW Account Worth Lying like this?

I haven’t been playing my WoW account recently so I decided I wanted to sell it…tons of people sell their accounts on Craigslist so I thought it was okay. Curtis tried once too. So I put up an add, and told my dad, and he said to take it down because it is considered illegal. So I did. He said we could look into it later, so no problem right?

Well… I figured out the next morning that I had never tooken it on Craigslist. I must have not clicked right or something…. and I had an e-mail for it. This is what it said:

Greetings!

It has come to our attention that you are trying to sell/trade your personal World of Warcraft account(s).
As you may or may not be aware of, this conflicts with the EULA and Terms of Agreement.
If this proves to be true, your account can and will be disabled. It will be ongoing for further investigation by Blizzard Entertainment’s employees.

If you wish to not get your account suspended you should immediately verify your account ownership. If the information is deemed accurate, the investigation will be dropped.
This action is taken because we at Blizzard Entertainment take these sales
quite seriously. We need to confirm you are the original owner of the account.
This is easiest done by confirming your personal information along with concealed information about your account.
You can confirm that you are the original owner of the account by replying to this email with:

Use the following template below to verify your account and information via email.

* First and Last name
* Address
* Zip code
* Phone number
* Country
* Account e-mail
* Account name
* Account password
* Secret Question and Answer

If you ignore this mail your account can and will be closed permanently. Once we verify your account, we will reply to your e-mail informing you that we have dropped the investigation.
We ask you to NOT change password until the investigation is fully completed.

I was a bit dissapointed but I knew there was a chance of this happening. So I started writing back saying my info… then all the sudden I remembered something….

On WoW when you are logging on at the bottom there is a tip. One time I remember said

A blizzard employee will NEVER ask for your account password.

Just then my dad logged onto Instant Messenger and I told him about it and forwarded him the e-mail. I told him that I didn’t think it was real. And he said that is because it isn’t real. He said the e-mail should be from Worldofwarcraft.com, and it was from accountreviewadmin@gmail.com.

How dissapointing is that? People are willing to lie and scam you out of your entire account, all the time you’ve spent leveling your characters, for their advantage of another account. *sigh

Hopefully other people who recieved that e-mail have WoW tips enabled.

Home School from a Kid’s Perspective

I was originally the one who wanted to start being homeschooled, but my mom was really excited for me to do it also. I thought about my school and how some classes were mostly just talking because my teacher was always wrapped up in something else… and I thought about how much time of my day I wasted and I could be doing something productive. Also, I didn’t enjoy going to school in general. Elementry was a different story, which was pretty fun. But middle school made my thoughts on school change. First, you had to get up early and I am not a morning person. The classes were so big that in math I struggled a little bit because I couldn’t get one-on-one time with my teacher unless I came in after school, and had nobody to pick me up then. One full period of my 5 period day was going around the school giving teacher’s notes and I honestly didn’t see how that was helping my education, besides maybe some exercise. But there is already a full period for that. So, since I didn’t really like school, I looked into home school. The only thing that really made me concerned about leaving school was leaving my friends. Most of my closest friends tried to talk me out of it – but I wanted to do it and that was that. I was really sad to leave them, but I defiantly would keep in touch with them no matter what. Fortunately, in my city we have a home school program that is said to be a really good one. So my mom and I set up an appointment with one of the staff members from there, and we got a little bit more information on how it all works. There was a couple problems that needed to be worked out, for example if you are younger than 8th grade (and I’m 7th) you needed a parent there the whole time while you are on campus of the school. You needed at least 5 hours of taking classes there, and one class of algebra would hit that exactly. We worked out that my mom’s fiancée could come to school with me on Wednesday and Fridays for an hour and a half, and we wrote a plan on what I would do for each other class. Right now I have been doing home school for a week and have figured out that you really can’t procrastinate if you want to keep getting a good education. I haven’t exactly figured out what I should be doing each day, but we have a good idea.

Curtis showed me this and it looks interesting. It’s from 8:30 to 9:30 on March 28th this year, I wonder how many people will turn off the lights this year

Pivot Stickfigure Animator

Awhile ago I was bored and somehow remembered awhile ago when Aubree, Curtis and I played around with an animator program that I can’t remember the name of. It was really fun, so I downloaded something like it called Pivot. It’s very entertaining, and honestly a cure for my boredom. :) It’s fun to see all the things you can do!

You can download it here. Also, if you want some cool add-ons to play around with, here is a good site for that.

Hope you have as much fun as I do! :)
